Millionaires Win: 2.00 - 0.00

Williamsport - The boys soccer team bettered their record Wednesday night with a shutout win against Selinsgrove.

A free kick deep in Williamsport’s offensive third by sophomore Spencer Kaar bounced around and junior Brayden Jarrett slipped it past the keeper for what turned out to be the game winner.

With a one-goal lead heading into the second half, Williamsport seemed to take their foot off of the gas pedal. While Selinsgrove began gaining momentum early in the second half, it was short lived. After a few minutes, sophomore Isaac Balza fed a pass to fellow sophomore Connor Hofstrom who buried his bending blast from 25 yards out into the upper right corner as an insurance goal for the Millionaires.

Sophomore keeper Max Fink and his defensive crew limited the Seals to zero goals and just five shots.

Williamsport improved to 7-7-1 on the season and travel to Bellefonte for their final regular season game next week.

Millionaires Lose: -

Lewisburg - The boys' soccer team traveled to Lewisburg yesterday afternoon to take on league-leading and District 4 powerhouse Green Dragons.

The Millionaires surprised Lewisburg in the first half with their speed and physicality in the center of the pitch and along the defensive line.  While the Green Dragons outshot the Millionaires in the first half, the defensive group of Tadd Ungard, Parker Johnson, Charlie Plummer, and Trevor Estes limited their quality opportunities throughout the half.  The score remained deadlocked at zero at the break.

Early in the second half, sophomore captain and center midfielder, Spencer Kaar delivered a corner kick to the far post where senior defender Tadd Ungard collected it and slid his shot past the keeper for a one-goal advantage.  Unfortunately, Lewisburg was able to mount a comeback and score the equalizer and go-ahead goal within minutes of each other late in the second half.

The boys are at home again Wednesday night for a 7:00 game against Selinsgrove.

Millionaires Lose: -

Williamsport - The boys' soccer team held their "blackout" night and Senior Night at the Williamsport Soccer Complex as they battled against the Mustangs from Midd-West.  Both teams had several opportunities in the first half to score but were deadlocked at 0-0 at halftime.

After the break, Midd-West seemed to have more possession and scored the game-winner mid-way through the second half.  Max Fink tallied nine saves last night.

"The energy from our student section was outstanding, especially in the first half during the downpour.  We loved the atmosphere our fans created for the boys and hope that kind of vibe can continue for future games," noted a coach after the game.

Williamsport is home again Saturday afternoon as they play a non-league game against Athens at 2:00.

Millionaires Win: 2.00 - 0.00

Williamsport - A steady rain dampened the turf at the Williamsport Soccer Complex as the Jersey Shore Bulldogs visited the Millionaires for a league matchup.

Our Williamsport boys maintained possession within their offensive half of the pitch all game, but struggled to find the back of the net until late in the first half. Sophomore captain, Spencer Kaar, netted his first goal of the season after collecting a pass from senior Tadd Ungard.  Early in the second half, sophomore Brayden Ungard tallied an insurance goal for the Millionaires; the assist coming from sophomore Isaac Balza.

Williamsport’s defensive crew consisting of Parker Johnson, Charlie Plummer, Tadd Ungard, and Trevor Estes allowed zero shots on goal.  Throughout the remainder of the second half, Williamsport continued to control the pace of play as well as test the Jersey Shore keeper.

Williamsport is back at their soccer complex next Wednesday night to battle Midd-West.

Boys JV/Varsity Soccer vs. Danville Area High School

Millionaires Win: 4.00 - 3.00

Danville - For the third consecutive game, the boys soccer team was playing on the road. After two tough loses to Milton and Altoona, the Millionaires needed to get off to a good start against Danville and then look to build from it.

Williamsport started the game aggressively and were able to maintain possession in their offensive half for a good chunk of the first ten minutes. Senior captain Evan Brittain crossed a ball to the far post where sophomore Isaac Balza collected it and slid it in for an early lead. After Danville found an equalizer, sophomore Connor Hofstrom calmly trapped a long deflection near the eighteen yard line and drilled his shot past the Ironmen keeper to give Williamsport a 2-1 lead at the break.

“Our message to the boys was to not change a thing about how we were playing. We wanted to remain aggressive and exhibit a solid soccer IQ.” noted head coach Brett Hofstrom.

The Millionaires picked up right where they left off and scored the game’s next two goals. Sophomore captain, Spencer Kaar, slotted a pass through to fellow sophomore Brayden Ungard who buried his shot into the back of the net. Ungard gathered a pass from Brittain and notched another goal before the night was over.

After the game, Coach Hofstrom mentioned, “Our center (Brittain, Kaar, Hofstrom, and Adjei-Frimpong) really played well tonight. That allowed us to move the ball from side to side until we were able to find the gaps. Tarell Brown had a great game for us too; he was a great target up front for us.”

The boys are back at The Williamsport Soccer Complex on Wednesday night for another league clash.

Millionaires Lose: -

Williamsport Soccer Complex - Brayden Ungard’s first half hat-trick was more than enough to propel the Millionaires to a league victory against Shikellamy.

The sophomore Ungard wasted little time as he collected a pass from junior Dumfer Adjei-Frimpong inside ten minutes of the opening whistle. A few minutes later sophomore captain, Spencer Kaar, slotted his assist through to Ungard for his second goal. With a two-goal advantage, the Millionaires continued to press the Braves and senior defender Tadd Ungard tallied an assist after he sent a long pass forward to his his younger brother to finish off for the hat-trick.

Tarell Brown, a senior netted a goal to start the second half after receiving Parker Johnson’s (senior captain) through-ball to put the Millionaires an insurance goal. Senior Trevor Estes put the icing on the cake after stealing a pass at midfield, beating a midfielder, and burying his shot into the upper corner of the net.

Sophomore keeper Max Fink and his defensive crew kept the Braves’ off of the scoreboard tonight to preserve the shutout.

Williamsport is on the road tomorrow as they travel to Milton for another league challenge.

Millionaires Win: 3.00 - 2.00

Mill Hall - The Millionaire boys soccer team even its record last night after gutting out a win on the road as they visited District 6 opponent, Central Mountain.

Williamsport found themselves down a goal early, but battled back to tie the score at one a piece after senior defender Tadd Ungard buried his shot into the back of the net from just inside the eighteen. Once again, however, our boys allowed another Wildcat goal and had a 1-2 deficit heading into the break, even though they had an 8-3 advantage on shots.

The Millionaires decided not to change the game plan and continued to pressure the Central Mountain midfield and defense, allowing scoring opportunities to pile up. While the Wildcats produced one quality scoring chance in the second half, it was the Millionaires who created several more threatening situations in the final third.

While Parker Johnson (a senior, captain) and his defensive crew (consisting of Tadd Ungard, Trevor Estes, Wyatt Judge, and at times, Charlie Plummer) locked down things in the defensive end of the field, midfielders Connor Hofstrom (a sophomore), Spencer Kaar (a sophomore, captain), Dumfer Adjei-Frimpong (a junior), and Evan Brittain (a senior, captain) kept up the attack and repeatedly found Brayden Ungard (a sophomore) and Tarell Brown (a senior) deep in the final third of the pitch.

It was this steady pressure that created an own goal for the home team, allowing Williamsport the equalizer with about ten minutes to play. Feeding off of the energy and momentum, Brayden Ungard was able to beat a defender and slid his shot just inside the far post for the game winner with less than five minutes in the game.

The Millionaires are 3-3 on the season and host the Shikellamy Braves Tuesday at the Williamsport Soccer Complex. Varsity kickoff is slated for 5:00 on Teacher Appreciation Night.

Millionaires Win: 3.00 - 1.00

Williamsport - The Millionaire boys soccer team stymied the Little Lions from State College on Saturday en route to a 3-1 victory.  After a weather delay, sophomore Brayden Ungard got things going for the Millionaires when he delivered a high cross to the far post where fellow sophomore Isaac Balza put it into the back of the net for a one-goal lead.  However, State College, a District 6 powerhouse, quickly answered with the equalizer a few minutes later.  While State College maintained more of the possession, Williamsport found its opportunities and capitalized on them.  Dumfer Adjei-Frimpong, a junior, quickly dispossessed a midfielder and was able to deliver his pass to Ungard for Williamsport's second goal.

After the halftime break, Williamsport wanted to limit State College from producing quality looks inside twenty yards and the midfielders and defensive line did just that.  The Millionaires created several counter-attack opportunities and converted on one when Ungard drew two defenders by going to the end line and then making a simple cross to senior Tarell Brown, who was waiting at the far post, for Williamsport's third goal.

The boys are in action again today (Tuesday) at our Williamsport Soccer Complex for a game against Warrior Run.

Millionaires Win: 6.00 - 0.00

Williamsport Soccer Complex - On Monday afternoon the Millionaires allowed zero shots on goal and cruised to a 6-0 victory in their season opener against the Mifflinburg Wildcats.

The midfielders and the defensive line thwarted any attack Mifflinburg tried to muster in either half.  Admittedly, the Millionaires struggled to find the back of the net until late in the first half when sophomore Connor Hofstrom served a corner kick that senior Tadd Ungard drilled into the back of the net just inside the near post.

After the half, the Millionaires picked up the intensity and became more creative with their offensive runs in the final third of the pitch creating numerous scoring opportunities.  Just two minutes into the second half, sophomore Brayden Ungard dribbled by two defenders and beat the keeper to double the Millionaire lead.  Senior captain, Parker Johnson, then got an assist when he found Brayden Ungard just outside the box and Brayden drilled his second goal of the night into the net.  Tadd Ungard, a defender, continued to push forward and got involved in the scoring again when he assisted Parker Johnson for Williamsport's fourth goal.  Spencer Kaar, a sophomore captain, tallied an assist from a corner kick as he found senior captain Evan Brittain to make it a five-goal lead.  Finally, the younger Ungard delivered a spectacular cross to the far post and teammate Gabriel Hill volleyed it past the keeper for the game's final goal.

Williamsport travels to Hazleton on Thursday afternoon before returning home for a Saturday game against State College.
